VALENTINE’S DAY AT CHRISTMAS FOAL SHOW

Once again Ulster Clydesdale enthusiasts turned out in force at Ballymena Livestock Market on Saturday for the Annual Clydesdale Foal Show, along with the large contingent of enthusiasts from both England and Scotland.

The split foal classes proved to be a real success, with 25 foals forward from across the province, as well as Co. Donegal. The task of judging was taken on by the experienced groom/showman to the Clydesdale fraternity, Mr Robert Meiklem from Aberfoyle.

The Overall Ribbons went to the Foal Champion Macfin Valentine who won the Senior Filly Foal class. This home bred foal was on her first outing for Graffin and Yvonne Hanna. Valentine is sired by Scott Bros. Stallion, Doura High Spirit and her dam being Kirkhouse Amazing Grace, who also won the Foal Show back in 2004.

The Reserve Overall Champion went to Alex and Geoffrey Tanner, with the top Junior Filly Foal, this was Arclid Shona, bred by Tony Bull, Cheshire. Shona is by the young stallion Arclid Hillside Avenger and her dam being Arclid Amber.

The new Senior Championship was won by Gordon Smyth, showing his home bred yearling colt, Cloghan Denver Lad. This dark bay colt is again by Doura High Spirit, and his dam being Borrowston Duchess, he also went on to take the Best Opposite Sex to the Overall Champion.
